Congratulations to LAHOA President Norm
Kitano, winner of
2009-2010 Pete Anderson Award given by
USA Hockey to an
outstanding referee in the Pacific District.
"Norm has
been a public hockey figure along with his
brother Art for many years. With Norm taking
the reins as a referee administrator now,
the District felt he has earned this
prestigious award for his personal
commitment and dedication to the sport of
ice hockey," said CAHA President Steve Laing
who nominated Norm for the honor.
Every year the Pacific District takes nominations from the affiliate
presidents in CA, OR, WA, NV and AK for the following 3
awards:

Andy Anderson Award - given to an outstanding administrator

Dempsey Anderson Award - given to an outstanding coach
-
Pete Anderson Award - given to an outstanding
referee
"Each of these awards go far beyond just
being an administrator, coach or referee.
It's that commitment one brings to the table
during his or her many years of service and
commitment. A passion and a desire for
excellent in the area of being the best one
can be. Giving back to a program in the
areas of training, evaluations, volunteer
time, mentoring, leadership on and off the
ice and professionalism on a daily basis
while never being bigger than the job
you're doing.
"The Pete Anderson Award was created in 1998,
when Pete, a referee from the Washington
area gave and gave to the referee program
for nearly 30 years," Laing explained.
Past
recipients include: Pete Anderson, Mike Lashlee, George Benson, Steve Stevens,
Steve Lubitz, Chris Leahy, Lee Karabelnikoff, Chris Miles, Casey Jorgensen and Joe Barth.
