The LAHOA Board of Directors would like to congratulate Jacob Rozenberg who will be working his first United States Hockey League (USHL) game as a linesperson! Jake will get back from his winter break in Southern California, jump in the car and head to Des Moines. After a few games in Iowa, he will make his way up to Green Bay, WI then head back to Dallas, TX! Green Bay is one of the best cities to visit in the USHL. Congrats to Jake on his first few games and good luck!

Tyler Hascall Receives USA Hockey’s Ben Allison Award

THE BEN ALLISON AWARD

In 2016, the Ben Allison Award was created to recognize deserving officials in the USA Hockey Officiating Development Program. The award is voted on by 150 members of the USA Hockey Officiating Development Program and is given to the official that best represents the characteristics that made Ben a special person and official, including always giving 100 percent on the ice and representing USA Hockey in the finest manner. The award will be presented on an annual basis. Allison was a level three USA Hockey certified official, who was tragically killed in January 2015 at the age of 20. A native of Royal Oak, Michigan and a student at Illinois State University, he had been officiating for eight years and was a part of the Officiating Development Program for three years at various levels, including the NAHL.

Trevor Wohlford Works First SPHL Game!

LAHOA would like to congratulate their own, Trevor Wohlford, on refereeing his first professional games. Trevor recently worked games in the Southern Professional Hockey League. The SPHL is a single A professional league consisting of 10 teams in the midwest and southeast United States. His first games consisted of a game in Knoxville, TN, followed by a series in Huntsville, AL and then off to Roanoke, TN. In January, Trevor will working again in the SPHL and travel to Evansville, IN, then again to Huntsville, AL as well as Birmingham, AL.

Trevor has been working for the USA Hockey Officiating Development Program (ODP) for 4 seasons now. He started his career in Montana working for the NAHL Tier 3 league (NAHL3). He was then promoted to Texas, working in the NAHL. He then moved to Indianapolis, IN and has lived there for the past season and a half working full time in the USHL. Many LAHOA professional officials have worked in the SPHL, including: Steven Berry, Neil Campbell, Niko Diehr, Eric McDonald, Brett Martin, Mike McBain, JM McNulty, Tanner & Tj Nua, Daniel Pecora, Brent Tubbs, Shane Warshaw, Steve Walsh & Andrew Wilk.

Welcome to the club, Trevor!

Caleb Andrade Works First USHL Game!

LAHOA is proud to announce & congratulate LAHOA Official Caleb Andrade on being assigned his first United States Hockey League (USHL) games. Caleb made his USHL debut in mid November Cedar Rapids, IA. It’s common for officials to get ‘call-ups’ into higher leagues. Typically it happens towards the end of the season to prep an official for the next season. Almost like getting an early look at whats to come. With November USAHL assignments coming to Caleb, I would imagine that he will see his far share of more this season. Given he is living in Amarillo, TX which is an easy drive, YES DRIVE, to the southern USHL cities in Nebraska, Iowa & Illinois!

This is Caleb’s 4th season in USA Hockey’s Officiating Development Program. He started living in Montana working in the North American 3 League. Then moved to Illinois followed by Fargo, ND to work the North American Hockey League (NAHL). This season, Caleb, is living in Amarillo, TX and will be working the NAHL and, now, the USHL!

Over the off season, Caleb dropped 27 pounds which helped his pass all of his fitness testing at training camp with flying colors. He’s already worked in Cedar Rapids and Sioux City. He still has games scheduled in Des Moines, Green Bay & Lincoln. YES, in that order.

When we had a chance to catch up with Caleb about the experience so far he had this to say, “Ever since I started in LAHOA, I always heard the stories of the ODP and wanted to skate in these leagues [and] I always knew I could. [I] had some trouble along the way. A lot of times I told myself this is my last season. I’m glad I stuck with it! [I] wasn’t expecting to have a swing this early but very grateful for it!”

Congratulations to Caleb!

ODP Officials to work Finals!

The LAHOA Executive Board and the Board of Directors would like to congratulate Eric MacDonald and John Lindner on their selection to work the Finals in their respective league!

Eric McDonald

Eric has been living in Chicago, Illinois this season, working full time in the USHL. He also skated games in the AHL and SPHL. Eric was chosen to work the SPHL Presidents Cup Finals and will now cap off a great season by working the USHL’s Clark Cup Finals!

John Lidner

John lived in Dallas, Texas this season working half of his games in the NAHL and the other half in the USHL. When it came down to playoffs, his assignments came in the NAHL. John has been selected to work the NAHL’s Robertson Cup Finals!

Congratulations to Eric and John on a great season and ultimately, making it to the end in their respective leagues!

Tyler Hascall to work first USHL game!

LAHOA is proud to announce & congratulate LAHOA official Tyler Hascall on being assigned his first United States Hockey League (USHL) games! Tyler will be refereeing a game between the Madison Capitals and the Muskegon Lumberjacks in Madison, WI on April 5th with fellow LAHOA official Niko Diehr, who will be manning the lines. The next night, on April 6th, Tyler will referee a game between the Dubuque Fighting Saints and the Chicago Steel in Dubuque, IA. Tyler has been living in Texas this season working for the North America Hockey League (NAHL). Often times, near the end of the season, officials who have been performing well in their respective leagues, in this case, the NAHL for Tyler, will be given the opportunity to get a “taste” of the next level, the USHL. This is a good sign for Tyler, who lived in Montana last season working primarily Jr A Tier 3. Up next for Tyler after a weekend “up top” is the NAHL playoffs. Good luck this weekend and the rest of the way!
