  • USA Hockey is the national governing body for amateur youth and adult hockey in Southern California. Please reference the resources below for USA Hockey playing rules:

CAHA

CAHA Guidebook

  • California Amateur Hockey Association (CAHA) is the governing body of amateur hockey in the state of California.
  • Please note that CAHA did not adopt the recommended rule change that would have changed the penalty times. They remain 2-minute minors, 4-minute double minors, 5-minute majors and 10-minute misconducts.

  • Southern California Amateur Hockey Association (SCAHA) consists of member clubs across Southern California.

ADHSHL

Anaheim Ducks High School Hockey League Rules

  • USA Hockey Rules
  • Running time will commence at a 7 goal differential in the 3rd period.
  • Varsity Division 1 and 2 will have an ice cut after 2nd period as long as there is not a 5 goal differential.
  • Players must have matching jerseys. Any player who doesn’t have a matching jersey cannot play.
  • Must have matching socks. 2 minute penalty per sock.
  • Players must be on time to the game. If they are not there at the start, it is a minor penalty once they step on the ice. They cannot play if they have arrived after the 1st period.
  • Varsity OT – 4 on 4, 5 minute sudden death running time overtime followed by a 3-man shootout, then sudden death shootout. Team switch ends for the overtime then switch back for the shootout.
  • JV OT – 3 man shootout, then sudden death shootout.

LAKHSHL

Los Angeles Kings High School Hockey League Rules

  • USA Hockey Rules
  • All games 16-minute periods. Varsity will have an ice cut after 2nd period.
  • If ice slot has 5 minutes remaining with 5 minutes left in the game, run-time will be used.
  • 3 on 3, 5 minute sudden death running time overtime followed by a 3-man shootout, then sudden death shootout. Every player must shoot before a player can shoot a second time. No penalized player may shoot.
  • If during the third period of a League Game, the score differential reaches 7 goals, the game clock shall be operated using a running time format until such time as the differential is reduced to 2.

ACHA & USPHL

NCAA Ice Hockey Playing Rules

  • The ACHA & USPHL uses the NCAA Ice Hockey playing rules.
  • ACHA OT – 5 minutes, sudden death stop time, 4 on 4. Then 3 player shoot out. Then Sudden death shootout.
  • USPHL – please consult your director of officials.
